I have been teaching students with special needs for over 30 years. Currently, I teach at Downers Grove North High School. Assistive Technology, both low tech and high tech, have always been a part of my teaching strategies for students. In 2008, I received a grant from the Telephone Pioneers to purchase two Itouch’s for my classroom and since then we have integrated as much technology as possible into daily instruction. In many ways, technology has leveled the playing field for my students who may be nonverbal or who struggle with significant sensory concerns. I am still learning everyday about resources and strategies that can assist my students to become more independent and enhance their educational experience.
