If You Build it They Will Come: A 21st century library and computer lab redesign

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
Over the past three years, the library and computer lab at Illini Central Grade School have been transformed. Formerly a space that was aesthetically stuck in the 1970s, where students checked out books and learned computer basics, it is now a space for true 21st century learning. Low-cost, high-impact physical renovations, combined with changes to the curriculum created an inviting, engaging, comfortable place for students to work and learn. When you step into this space you will hear the quiet buzz of enthusiasm as students discuss books, respond to texts using PicCollage, retell a story using Scratch Jr, or collaborate to create a character education slide show for their peers. The session will detail how we created a student-centered space which combines literacy and technology in a meaningful way in order to prepare students for their futures. A discussion of ideas and possibilities among attendees will be encouraged.
