Having a one-to-one device allows students who may not have access to technology a chance to experience it, and, more importantly, learn how to use it appropriately and professionally, but it can be challenging for some students with financial troubles. As we continue to think about our students and poverty, as well as their social-emotional heath, research into the brain, poverty, and technology should change the way we may use it. This session not only looks at current research into the cross-section of technology, poverty, and the brain, but finds immediate, researched-based, powerful ways to help all students succeed with their one-to-one devices when not in school. It also brings to light some privileges and cultural biases of one-to-one technology use. Finally, this session seeks to allow educators to share strategies and resources for working with students in poverty that can be immediately implemented.
