This project is a collaboration between the elementary school art and music teachers. In an effort to utilize the students’ knowledge of coding and integrate technology into the art and music curriculum, we created this interactive project for the second and third grade students. Each student created three artworks influenced by Van Gogh, Klimt, and Gaughin in art class and each with a specific color theme of red, yellow, or blue. In music class, the students learned to code with the program Tynker a short chord progression with three major chords (I, IV, and V). The students began the school year learning to play recorders in second grade and Nuvo Instrument Toots in third grade. After coding the chord progression and coding a corresponding artwork (red:I chord, yellow: IV chord, blue: V chord) the students created melodic lines on their instruments. The students performed compositions with the projected art work onto three blank canvases and the coded chord progressions for their class.
