Promoting Student Growth through Personalized, Inquiry Based Learning

This session will offer ideas and tools to promote multiple ways to implement inquiry-based, personalized learning to meet the needs of all students. Children are encouraged to investigate their natural curiosity to study a topic they are passionate about as a means to conduct research, understand the content in greater depth, and possibly connect with experts from across the globe using technology-based communication tools. Students then have choice in how they design, create, and share these projects with an authentic audience, including classmates, teachers, and families. This launch process of publicly sharing either multimedia portfolios or traditional presentation models sets a purpose and motivates students to produce high quality work. Students may, and most likely will fail in their initial plan or at some point in their journey. And then they will learn, innovate, adapt, and discover how to proceed, with student as leader, and teacher as facilitator, encourager, and supporter. The process is messy, but powerful….like real life. Once you experience it, you will never turn back. Come re-energize your teaching and learning with Inquiry Based Learning strategies!
