Randy Hengst

Augustana College
Professor
Rock Island, IL
Randy Hengst began his teaching career in 1975. He taught 6th grade science and self-contained 4th grade. He also served as an administrator in middle and elementary schools. As an elementary principal he helped a handful of 6th grade students learn to use HyperCard®. He earned a Ph.D. in 1990 and has worked as a teacher educator at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL since 1993. In the mid-90s he introduced teacher candidates to scripting within HyperCard and HyperStudio®. All current projects are developed with LiveCode® for iOS® and are designed to support a collaborative project with a local elementary school. In that project, he and Dr. Mike Egan work with elementary education majors and kindergarten teachers to facilitate the kindergarteners’ developing sense of number. The elementary education majors and kindergarten teachers regularly make suggestions to create new and modify existing apps.
